    Online advertising has become such a big business because unlike traditional forms of advertising, like print media, it’s extremely measurable. I know we’ve discussed many ways AdWords allows us to analyze our marketing. And integrating Analytics adds on a whole other tracking dimension. Another tracking option available to AdWords users is conversion tracking. Conversion tracking gives us the ability to use special codes that allow us to keep track of how many sales or leads an AdWords campaign is generating.

    Now the cool part about this is, it’s not just tracking the conversion. It’s also associating the conversion back to the appropriate campaign, ad group, ad and keyword. That way you can know this keyword, in this ad accomplished this sale. So I can measure my ROI all the way through from campaign to keyword. As an example, maybe your overall ad campaign is not profitable, but if you look at it down to the keyword, you may find certain keywords are profitable. And that is huge knowledge.

    Task Number 1

    So we’re logged into our campaign on the all campaigns tab. From here, select tools, and then conversions. Now we need to enter the name of the conversion we’d like to track. This will help us identify which action we’re tracking later on when we’re looking at a report. So I’ll choose Product 1. And then click done. This could have also been newsletter sign up, or media download. Whatever makes sense for what you’re trying to track. Next we have value. And this is where Google allows us to say how much each of the conversions is worth to our business.
